Google is Scared of ChatGPT
Google’s Era of Search is Over
Since ChatGPT released in 2022, Google made a strong push to fight against the OpenAI product. Google recently released Bard to fight against the advanced chatbot but hasn’t caught up yet.
This is a problem for Google and here’s why the company should be worried.
Google search hasn’t improved in years
The Google search engine is largely a finished product. Its been left untouched and has lived off its efficiency searching for websites.
Looking at the search enginer, it’s been the same way it has been for years. There’s little to share about how innovative it’s been. Lack of research and development in this area can lead to Google’s largest revenue drivers behind.
However, while Google was complacent, ChatGPT was evolving for years. While Google is just now working on Bard, the model is generations behind ChatGPT and has a lot more work before it can catch up to the competitor.
Users are turning away from searching for websites
As the largest search engine in the world, Google claimed a monopoly on the search ads market. However, the Google search engine is mostly completely and what they’re noticing is that users aren’t searching for websites anymore.
They’re searching for information.
With the growth of Word-of-mouth platforms like Yelp, users are turning to these places directly. For advice, users are turning to TikTok, Reddit, and Quora to answer their questions. Google search results are sometimes a quick means to get there.
How does this affect the company? It means users are spending less time on their searching platform, less time clicking Google Ads, and generating less revenue from the search ads market.
And once ChatGPT provides better search results than Google, their profits will drop.
Closing thoughts
Google as a company isn’t doomed by any means. But they can’t ignore the threat of changing search habits from websites to content. While Google is fighting back with Bard, they have a lot of ground to cover if they want to compete with ChatGPT.
The problem isn’t how fast Bard is evolving.
The problem is that ChatGPT is evolving faster.
